Comic picks for 4/7/10

I'll tell you I couldn't be more pleased with myself for keeping the ball rolling for three weeks straight. I hope you're enjoying it as well. Another small week but that’s ok, a lot of quality this week. Wait for it, wait for it..........

Red Robin #11
Writer: CHRISTOPHER YOST
Artist: MARCUS TO
Part 3 of the Batgirl/Red Robin cross over "Collision" so far, so good. In the first two parts of this arc we got to see some cool story telling jumping from Batgirl to Red Robin seeing both Stephanie and Tim’s point of view in the story. We're back to the Red Robin side so that means we're getting treated to Marcus To's ever impressive art and again I say don't get used to him on Red Robin a big name is going to scoop him up sooner rather than later especially since this book will probably be canceled relatively soon with FABIAN NICIEZA taking over.

Astounding Wolf-Man #22

Writer: ROBERT KIRKMAN
Artist: JASON HOWARD
Wolf-Man has been one of my favorite books over the passed few years very overlooked by most comic fans but I think it's every bit as good as Invincible and the Walking Dead. It is also a great expansion of the Invincible universe. Only three books left the actions is through the roof! If you haven't checked this book out I recommend you pick up the back issues or trades and catch up if you don't you're seriously missing out on one of the best non big two companies.

Buffy Season 8 # 34
Writer:BRAD MELTZER
Artist: GEORGES JEANTY

Twilight part three, some times when I'm writing recommendations I feel a bit silly because I sit here and say to my self "how do you try to make a Buffy the vampire slayer comic written by Brad Meltzer more seem appealing?" So I sit, and think, and eventually call the readers naive for making me try to sell this to them. I'm not going to do that today I'm simply going to tell you there a bunch of curse words in this book.

Superman: Secret Origin #5 of 6
Writer: Geoff Johns
Artist: Gary Frank
Instead of saying look at the Buffy description I'll put it this way, you're not going to get a superman book of this quality at writer and artist combined for a long time.

The Flash: Secret Files and Origins 2010

Writer: GEOFF JOHNS
Artist: SCOTT KOLINS, FRANCIS MANAPUL and OTHERS

Nothing big will happen here but I'm always going to back up a flash book. There should be some bart in this book and I love me some Francis Manapul too.

Picks for 3/31/10

I made a promise at the beginning of the year and boy, have I failed to deliver on it. Still here we are I only missed one week so that something..... slim pickins this week but here you go readers.

Gotham City Sirens #10
Writer: PAUL DINI
Artist: GUILLEM MARCH

Part two of "Pieces of the Puzzle" arc. I'm very excited about where DC is going with the Riddler. Although I did love the other stuff Paul Dini did with the character I was a huge fan of the level they took him to in the original hush arc. In the first part of this arc the screws seem to be coming lose while the Riddler is solving a mystery for the sirens can't wait to see where he ends up by the end of this all.

Justice League of America #43
Writer: JAMES "life destroyer" ROBINSON
Artist: MARK BAGLEY

Now, I'll admit this may only be a pick because it's such a slim week that being said I am giving this jla a shot out of sheer love for the titans. Hopefully it doesn't end in horrible maiming of everything I love. For now though I'll enjoy the Titans League of America. If that's not enough come on, Starfire is sexy.

Wonder Woman #42
Writer: GAIL SIMONE
Artist: NICOLA SCOTT and DOUG HAZLEWOOD
I have no idea what's going on in this book, I guess this issues about someone called the "Silver Serpent" I don't know sounds lame. But this issue does feature the Green Lantern corps and is written by Gail Simone and drawn by Nicola Scott so it cant be all bad. Give it a try, one of us has to.

Blackest Night #8 of 8
Writer: GEOFF JOHNS
Artist: IVAN REIS
This is a little indie book you may not have heard of but I think if you give it a try you might like it. So basically at this point I'd really just like to Gloat about the fact that I called Sinestro being the white lantern like 9 months ago so you know, boosh! All kidding aside (well not all kidding lets be serious about who's talking here) I hate to use this term but every aspect of Blackest Night has been epic and heres the end so stop being difficult and just buy the book. It's one of the ones we'll be telling our grand kids about when we're appalled at the current state of their comics age.

Comics for the week of 3/10/10

Welcome back to our blog! thanks for sticking with us.

BATGIRL #8
Writer: BRYAN Q. MILLER
Artist: LEE GARBETT
This issue kicks off the Red Robin cross over, and if you're like me this is very exciting because Red Robin and Batgirl are the only thing keeping me in the bat family. Batgirl has been bringing it every month with an awesome blend of comedy and action. This book is a must for Stephanie Brown fans
RED ROBIN #10

Writer: CHRISTOPHER YOST
Artist: MARCUS TO

The second part of the cross over so, you know don't give up on us now. I want to comment on the art as well, Marcus To has been killing it with a style I can only describe as half Jim lee half Ale Garza so enjoy him while you can he'll be drawing for the big books soon. oh and omg omg omg Ra's al Ghul vs. Hush!

SECRET SIX #19
Writer: GAIL SIMONE
Artist: JIM CALAFIORE
This book has me especially pumped because it features the return of Cheshire and all signs seem to point to her becoming a character to watch with her popping up in Rise of arsenal, Titans:heroes for hire. I guess its time to see if shes having a litter of kittens......

BATMAN: WIDENING GYRE #5 (OF 6)

Writer:Kevin Smith
Artist:Walter Flanagan

Other than the fact you have to keep in mind this isn't really Batman it's how Kevin Smith would be Batman and the art is just ok this series has been great issue to issue. It's not going to Change how you see the Dark Knight but it's worth the 2.99 you're paying for it which is more then I can say for 99% of marvel books.
R.E.B.E.L.S. #14
Writer: TONY BEDARD
Artist: CLAUDE ST. AUBIN
What's that? 14 issue Starro arc? I'm down.

SUPERMAN: LAST STAND OF NEW KRYPTON #1 (OF 3)
Writer: JAMES ROBINSON and STERLING GATES
Artist: MARCOS MARZ
I'll admit I'm probably not going to read this book myself but there's no reason you shouldn't It's expanding on Geoff Johns' New Krypton the only thing I can say is if your favorite character is in this book and has a kid don't buy it.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE RISE AND FALL SPECIAL
Writer: JAMES ROBINSON and J.T. KRUL
Artist: MAURO CASCIOLI
What's done is done and we have to move on from there. As bad a cry for justice was this book has me very excited. I'm assuming that krul is really going this one alone with is fine with me. If you haven't caught his work on the various Titans titles of late you're surely missing out. Krul is about to take over the Green Arrow books in a big awesome way so dont miss out on what's looking to be a definative run for the whole Green Arrow family.
